Soto Opticians' tradition of quality began in 1949, when the business was founded by Oscar Lowe. In 1961, Fred Soto Sr. bought the business and built it into Sarasota's leading optical retailer. Over the past 20 plus years, his son Ron Soto has kept a competitive edge against the large optical chain stores by catering to Sarasota's most discriminating customers. He carries four of the five top eye wear lines in the world (as rated by the Robb Report), along with many exclusive collections and styles available in only a few shops around the world. Soto offers personal attention to every client and expert in-house eyeglass processing. He recently added complete eye care services at the downtown location.
As Sarasota's oldest existing optical retailer, the company has seen many eyewear trends come and go. Now Soto says his customers are choosing glasses with small eye-shapes, partially rimless frames and extremely thin, light weight, scratch- and impact-resistant lenses. And, all finishing work is done by Ron himself in the downtown boutique.
Ron Soto is also carrying Soto Opticians' tradition of community involvement. "My father insisted that being part of the community means giving something back," he says. Soto supports a variety of worthwhile local events and charities.
"We've found our place in Sarasota," Soto adds. "We offer our customers quality over quantity. The community supports us, and we in turn support our community."
